Supporting Student Wellbeing at Moorebank High School
Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is embedded in everyday school life.
We do this through:
- creating inclusive classrooms where students feel safe, welcomed and valued
- providing access to school counsellors, psychologists and specialist staff
- delivering programs that build health, social skills, attendance and positive behaviour
- supporting students through key transitions, including starting school and moving between year levels
- maintaining clear expectations for behaviour and respectful relationships
- building strong relationships with students and working in partnership with families
- developing individual health care plans where required
- ensuring open, ongoing communication about student wellbeing and support.
Need support for your child's wellbeing?
If you have any concerns about your child’s wellbeing, please reach out to your child’s Year Advisor.
For urgent or serious concerns, contact the Head Teacher Wellbeing or Deputy Principal.
Our school Wellbeing Team may recommend a referral to our school counselling service. Students may also self refer using the SSO/School counselling referral form.
The School Counselling Service can:
- Support students experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties through skill and strategy development (e.g. low mood, anxiety, body image concerns, self-harm and suicidal ideation)
- Assess student learning and behaviour
- Assist teachers and students to identify and address disabilities impacting learning
- Liaise with external agencies to support student wellbeing
Wellbeing Hub:
The Wellbeing Hub provides a calm, safe and supportive space where students can access a range of supports. This includes Breakfast Club, access to the Student Support Officer, Head Teacher Wellbeing, and opportunities to engage in a variety of target programs or voluntary activities designed to promote connection, resilience and wellbeing
Wellbeing Hub Breakfast Club operates every morning in the Wellbeing Hub from 8:00–8:30am and is open to all students. It provides a range of healthy breakfast options to ensure students start their day ready to learn. Students experiencing limited access to food are also supported with the opportunity to prepare a packed lunch for the day ahead.
Breakfast Club plays an important role in promoting positive attendance and student wellbeing. By encouraging students to arrive at school on time, it reinforces our message that every minute counts and that regular attendance is essential for success.
The program also creates a welcoming space for connection, where staff can engage with students, provide mentoring, and proactively support attendance and wellbeing needs. Through this setting, students are coached to set attendance goals and are recognised for both consistent and improved attendance.
We are proud to partner with Foodbank Australia, whose support enables us to provide this valuable service to our school community.
Click and Connect runs every Monday lunchtime in the Wellbeing Hub, providing a safe and supportive space for students to unwind, build LEGO creations, and connect with others.
This initiative encourages students to develop positive social connections, strengthen communication skills, and engage in a calm, creative activity. It also offers valuable opportunities for students to connect with Wellbeing staff, fostering trusted relationships and providing additional support where needed.
At Moorebank High School we focus on student strengths.
A strengths-based approach improves student’s confidence as well as increasing resilience, academic performance and achievement of goals.

Growth Coaching
As part of our ongoing commitment to student wellbeing and success, students in Years 8, 9 and 10 participate in our Growth Coaching program.
Through Growth Coaching, students meet with a teacher “coach” from our Wellbeing Team to reflect on their learning, wellbeing and future goals. During these conversations, students develop their My Personalised Pathway Plan, which focuses on setting academic, social and personal goals tailored to their individual strengths and areas for growth.
The Growth Coaching process encourages students to take ownership of their learning journey, build positive relationships with staff, and develop strategies to support their engagement and achievement at school. Student data and feedback may also be used to help identify areas where additional support or encouragement may be beneficial.
Research shows that goal setting and regular reflection can have a positive impact on student achievement, motivation and overall engagement in school life.
Year 12 Mentoring
Each Year 12 student is provided a teacher mentor as an additional and individualised support throughout their final year of high school. They may assist with careers or academic advice (ATAR)/TAFE/Uni/gap year/pathways), time management and developing a study timetable, support seeking for Mental health issues including depression/anxiety/panic attacks and addressing relationship concerns.
Year 7:
Transition into high school can be a daunting experience for many students. To support this, Moorebank High School works closely with our partner primary schools and families to ensure a supportive and smooth transition into high school. This also includes Wellbeing Team visits to primary schools as well as additional information, transition and orientation sessions on site.
We recognise that a strong sense of belonging is key to student wellbeing and engagement. A range of targeted initiatives are implemented to support students socially, emotionally, culturally and academically, particularly for those who may be at greater risk of a challenging transition.
Once students commence, they are supported to navigate the high school experience and build positive relationships through our Peer Support program and targeted Year 7 Transition sessions at the start of Year 7, ensuring their learning, wellbeing and engagement are supported.
Year 10:
To support Year 10 students in their transition to senior school and future pathways, they engage in a range of targeted supports. This includes a Pathways Wellbeing Day, senior subject taster lessons, subject selection information sessions, work experience, and careers guidance. These experiences are supported throughout the year through pathways-aligned goal setting and coaching as part of the Growth Coaching process.
To support Year 11 students in their transition into senior school, Moorebank High School provides a range of academic and wellbeing supports to ensure students are confident, organised and prepared for the demands of Stage 6. Year 11 begin Stage 6 with Transition to Senior School workshops.
Students are supported through subject-specific guidance, clear expectations around assessment and course requirements, and access to classroom support from teachers. Wellbeing supports remain available via Year Advisers and the Wellbeing Hub, including access to the Student Support Officer and counselling where needed. Referrals also may be made to the BRAVE Pathways teacher or Careers Adviser if students require further assistance.
A continued focus on Growth Coaching supports students to set meaningful, pathways-aligned goals, monitor their progress and build independence. Students are also guided in developing effective study habits, time management skills and resilience, while accessing careers advice to support post-school planning.
Students also complete the Life Ready program in Year 11. A mandatory 25-hour course designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situations related to health and safety – as they become more independent and gain more responsibilities.
