A message from your Captains

Message from your Captains

Hello everyone, it’s your school captains, Ilir and Bianca, sending out a little message to the Moorebank High School community in these trying times. As our first two week break of 2020 comes to an end and we start Term 2, we just want to say as your fellow peers to not give up.

Although it may seem like this might go on forever, there's always a light at the end of the tunnel, and as ironic as it is to say, we are all in this together. Even though we are all at home, separated, and the rest of Australia is social distancing, it's important to stay connected with each other. That doesn't mean just going to Westfields to grab some food, because in these times that's obviously not the smart thing to do, but check in with not only your friends but other classmates that you might not talk to as much via the internet, whether it be Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat or even Google Classroom.

During these challenging times, it is so important that we stay connected from a distance to not burn the bridges that we have formed around us in the Moorebank community, especially those with our teachers and administrators. They, too, can understand this is a challenging time for us all as students and behind the scenes have been working above and beyond in an effort to support us. With that said, we assure you they would prefer to read through whatever you have to vent about than for you to feel that you were alone through this. Please reach out to your teachers via email or Google Classroom - let them know if you are lacking motivation, having difficulties, or feeling overwhelmed. As cringey as they can be, they really do care about us and we’re sure they miss us.

For a lot of us, being at home doing school work has proven difficult, especially managing all the different learning resources that we are being provided via Google Classroom. We thought to offer our two cents on the best ways to cope.

Have a dedicated space in your home, whether it be a corner in your room with a desk, or a study room that you dedicate to only do work-related matters. Sadly that means no Netflix, no games, and no distractions for the period of time that works best for you.

Try to maintain your day-to-day routine as much as possible: Try to keep to the normal school hours of each day. This way, you can simulate a school environment so you can stay on track and motivated.

Look after yourself: After finishing your work, take a break, do some exercise, or watch some Netflix. Do discover things that you enjoy but do so in a different area from your designated study space. This way you can help differentiate a relaxing environment and a work/study environment.

In times like this, it can be easy to lose sight of goals you have worked so hard towards. We must remember that though these times are difficult, they will not last forever.

Remember, stay connected from a distance!

Kind regards,

Your School Captains with no School
