Year 9

Year 9 English is both challenging and enjoyable. Students become increasingly sophisticated as they move from Stage 4 to Stage 5. Year 9 English develops skills to enable students to experiment with ideas and expression, to become active, independent learners, to work with each other and to reflect on their learning. Through responding to and composing texts, students will learn about the power, value and art of the English language for communication, knowledge and pleasure.

Students will engage with and explore texts that include literature of the past and present. By composing and responding with imagination, feeling, logic and conviction, students develop an understanding of themselves, and of others.  Students study persuasive language, advertising, film, a thematic unit and a novel and will be required to respond to texts in many different forms including spoken, print, visual and multimedia texts.
