PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE 2021

Each year Moorebank High School encourages students to participate in the Premier's Reading Challenge. The former Premier, the Hon. Bob Carr, instituted the Challenge to encourage a love of Reading. The current Premier awards a signed certificate to all students who complete the Challenge! (Students can also earn School merit certificates as they complete the challenge.)

What is the Challenge?

The Challenge is for students from years 7-9 to to read 20 books between March 1 and August 20 this year. (See below for revised date).

PRC COVID 19 UPDATE:

The Premier's Reading Challenge requires the validation of student reading records before the conclusion of the Challenge and this may be difficult to complete at this time.
To allow students and coordinators to complete this task, the Premier's Reading Challenge will be extended for a further two weeks.

The 2021 Challenge dates are now as follows:

Challenge opens: Monday March 1, 2021

Challenge closes for students: Friday September 3, 2021 (11.59pm).

In addition,

  • Students on all Challenge levels will be able to read 10 choice books instead of 5.
  • Students on all Challenge levels will be able to include books on their reading records that they read collaboratively as a class, in person or online with their teacher or at home with their parents/carers.

Reading at home
Do you need access to books to read whilst learning at home? Many school and public libraries offer access to ebooks whilst access to their physical collection is limited.

Our School Library subscribes to Wheelers eBooks and students can access these through the student portal or by downloading the Wheelers app to their device. Further instructions are available through the Year group google classroom or on the MHS: Learning from Home website or refer to the Library links page.

A link to Liverpool Library is also available on the Library links page.

The Reading list can be viewed here :

There is also a new website that students can access to help them choose books to read and add books to their Reading Record here:

Students need to complete their online reading record accessible via their DET portal page or using the link above. (Mrs Tierney can assist any students who need help filling in their online reading record.)

Certificates will be awarded in November/December.

If you have any further questions about the Premier's Reading Challenge please contact Mrs Tierney in the School Library on 9601 3999 or email lisa.tierney@det.nsw.edu.au
